How do you get rid of a wanted level in Palworld?
Answer
Wanted status clears by itself once you break away from the pursuing guards and stay clear of them for a while. Run or fly far from the settlement, avoid attacking anyone else, and wait it out — or simply die, which also resets the pursuit at the cost of dropped items.
Wanted status is what happens when a stray attack clips a villager, or when you decide the merchant's stock is better taken than bought. Armed guards spawn, they hit hard, and they keep coming.
What triggers it
- Attacking or killing villagers or merchants
- Attacking guards in a settlement
- Attacking Syndicate members in some contexts
- Splash damage from an area attack while fighting near a town — the most common accident
That last one catches people constantly. A grenade or a wide Pal attack aimed at a wild Pal near a settlement counts as an attack on whoever it clips.
How to clear it
1. Break pursuit
Get away from the guards. A flying mount is the cleanest exit; a fast ground mount works too. Distance is what matters.
2. Fast travel out
If you have a fast travel statue unlocked and you are not carrying restricted materials such as Ore or Coal, teleport away. Pursuit does not follow through a teleport.
3. Wait
Once you are clear and no longer engaging anyone, the status expires on its own. Do something useful in the meantime — a mining run or an Alpha circuit is a fine way to pass it.
4. Or just die
Dying resets the pursuit. It costs you dropped items depending on your world's death penalty setting, so it is the last resort rather than the first.
Avoiding it
- Do not use area attacks near towns. Switch to single-target weapons inside settlement boundaries.
- Recall your Pal before entering a settlement. An aggressive Pal can start a fight you did not.
- Do not loot NPC buildings while guards are watching.
- Buy rather than steal. Merchant stock is cheap once you sell surplus Pals, and a dead merchant is a supply line you have removed from your own game.
That last point is worth taking seriously. Merchants sell Wheat Seeds, Pal Spheres and the technology reset item. Killing the Small Settlement merchant makes your Cake and breeding chain noticeably harder to start.
If guards keep finding you
Guards track your last known position. Change direction after leaving line of sight rather than running in a straight line, use terrain and cliffs to break sight, and get airborne if you can. Once they lose you, they stop.
Frequently asked questions
- What causes wanted status in Palworld?
- Attacking or killing NPCs — villagers, merchants, guards or Syndicate members within a settlement — makes you wanted, and armed guards pursue you.
- Does wanted status ever expire?
- Yes. Once you escape the pursuing guards and stay away, the status wears off on its own after a period of time.
- Can you fast travel to escape guards?
- Fast travelling away from the area is the quickest way to break pursuit, provided you are not carrying restricted materials that block travel.
