Where do you find Chromite in Palworld?

Answer

Chromite is a late-game ore found in the cold northern mountains, in deep cave and dungeon interiors, and around the outer islands. It requires a high-tier pickaxe and cold-resistant armour, and it is used to produce Refined Ingots for advanced weapons and armour.

Chromite shows up on your recipe list long before you find any, which is why it is one of the most searched materials in the game. It is a late-game ore, and the game does not signpost it.

Where Chromite spawns

  • Cold northern regions. The snowy mountains and their cave systems hold the most accessible surface nodes.
  • Deep caves and dungeon interiors. Cave routes in high-level regions frequently contain Chromite along the way to the boss.
  • Outer island areas. The smaller islands off the main landmass have deposits with fewer hostile Pals, though getting there needs a flying mount.

Use the interactive map to line up a route: pick the northernmost fast travel statue you have unlocked, then sweep outward on a mount.

Requirements

  • A high-tier pickaxe. The metal pickaxe is the practical minimum; upgrade if you have the parts.
  • Cold-resistant armour. Northern regions apply continuous cold damage at night.
  • A flying mount. Chromite is heavy and blocks fast travel.
  • Combat readiness. The Pals guarding northern nodes are typically level 40 and above.

What Chromite makes

Chromite's job is Refined Ingots. Smelted with Ore at an upgraded furnace, Refined Ingots unlock:

  • Advanced weapon tiers, including higher-grade firearms
  • Advanced Metal Armor and its variants
  • Late-game base structures and stations

If your weapon damage has plateaued while your level keeps climbing, Refined Ingots — and therefore Chromite — are almost always the missing link.

Farming Chromite efficiently

  1. Build a northern outpost. Same pattern as the desert mining base: Palbox, chest, furnace, three Mining Pals, one Transporting Pal, a food supply.
  2. Use high-tier miners. Astegon and Anubis outperform early Mining Pals significantly on hard nodes.
  3. Smelt on site. Turn Chromite plus Ore into Refined Ingots before travelling; ingots are far lighter than raw ore and do not block fast travel the same way.
  4. Chain dungeons. Northern dungeons contain both Chromite and the Ancient Technology Points you need to unlock the recipes that consume it.

Chromite rarely appears alone on a blocked recipe. If you are gathering it, you probably also need Pure Quartz for Circuit Boards and Coal for Carbon Fiber. Planning one long northern and one long desert base solves the entire late-game material tree in two trips.

Frequently asked questions

What is Chromite used for in Palworld?
Chromite is smelted alongside Ore to produce Refined Ingots, which are required for advanced weapons, high-tier armour and late-game base technology.
Is Chromite in the starting region?
No. Chromite is a late-game material found in cold northern regions, deep caves and outer island areas, not in the starting grasslands.
Can Pals mine Chromite?
Yes, if you build a base within range of Chromite nodes. High-tier Mining Pals such as Astegon and Anubis handle it best.
