How do you get a flying mount in Palworld?

Answer

Catch or breed a flight-capable Pal, unlock its saddle in the technology tree, craft the saddle at a workbench, then equip it and press the mount key. Nitewing is the common early flyer, with faster options available later through breeding.

Nothing changes Palworld more than the first flying mount. Cliffs stop being obstacles, effigy sweeps become quick, and regions that were a forty-minute walk become a two-minute flight.

The three steps

1. Get a flight-capable Pal

Several species can fly. Nitewing is the usual first one — it appears at a moderate level in reachable territory and is a good all-round carrier.

You can also breed one. If you already own the parents, that is often faster than hunting: enter what you have into the breeding calculator, or use the path finder to get a route from your current roster to a flyer.

2. Unlock the saddle

Saddles are technology tree entries. Each mountable Pal has its own, bought with Technology Points at the appropriate character level.

3. Craft and equip it

Build the saddle at a workbench from materials — typically leather, fibre and ingots. Leather is the usual bottleneck early. Then equip the saddle to the Pal and mount up.

Choosing a flyer

ConsiderationNotes
Flight speedThe main differentiator between flyers
StaminaDetermines how far you go before descending
Combat abilitySome flyers fight well, others only carry
Passive skillsRunner, Nimble and Swift meaningfully increase speed

That last row matters more than the species choice. A bred flyer with movement passives outperforms a wild-caught faster species. Passive inheritance is covered in the breeding guide.

Stamina management

Flight drains stamina and you descend when it runs out. Practical habits:

  • Gain altitude early, then glide to conserve
  • Carry stamina-restoring food
  • Prefer a flyer with a larger stamina pool for long crossings
  • Break long trips with fast travel points

What it unlocks

With a flyer you can realistically:

Get one as early as your Technology Points allow. It pays for itself within a single session.

Frequently asked questions

What is the first flying mount in Palworld?
Nitewing is the usual first flyer — it appears in reachable regions at a moderate level and its saddle unlocks early in the technology tree.
Do you need a saddle to fly a Pal?
Yes. Every mountable Pal requires its specific saddle, unlocked with Technology Points and crafted from materials at a workbench.
Can you breed a better flying mount?
Yes. Faster flyers exist and several are produced by specific breeding pairs, so breeding is often quicker than hunting one down in the wild.
