How many bases can you have in Palworld?
Players search this as “how many bases can you have in palword”. Here is the verified Palworld 1.0 answer, plus the tools that let you act on it right away.
Short answer
You unlock multiple base slots as you progress, and each base is defined by a Palbox with its own build radius and Pal capacity. Dedicated servers can raise the limit through world settings. Dismantling a Palbox frees the slot so you can relocate a base.
Base slots are the quiet backbone of Palworld progression. Most players build one sprawling base, hit a wall on materials, and only later realise the game expects you to run several specialised ones.
How base slots work
- A base is created by placing a Palbox.
- Each Palbox defines a build radius and a Pal capacity.
- You unlock additional base slots as you progress, up to the world's limit.
- On a dedicated server, the caps can be raised in world settings.
- Bases belong to your guild, so guild members share the slots.
Dismantling a Palbox frees its slot immediately, so bases are relocatable — retrieve your chests first, because structures in the old base do not move with you.
The specialised base pattern
The strongest setup is not one big base but three focused ones:
1. Home base — production and breeding
Berry and Wheat plantations, a Mill, a Ranch, a Cooking Pot and the Breeding Farm with a bank of Egg Incubators. This is where your Cake chain lives, and it should be somewhere flat and safe.
2. Mining base — desert
Positioned between Coal, Sulfur and Quartz clusters, with a Furnace and later a Production Assembly Line so materials are refined on site. This solves the fast-travel restriction on heavy ore entirely.
3. Ore and logging base
Ordinary Ore, Stone and Wood in bulk, close to the main road network so it doubles as a convenient fast travel waypoint.
Every base is also a teleport destination, which makes even a minimal outpost worth placing in a region you visit often.
Assigning Pals properly
Each base has a Pal capacity, and filling it with the wrong Pals is the usual reason a base feels slow:
| Base type | Wants |
|---|---|
| Production | Planting, Watering, Gathering, Handiwork, Kindling |
| Mining | Mining, Transporting |
| Logging | Lumbering, Transporting |
Work suitability for all 299 Pals is listed in our Paldex. One Transporting Pal per base is close to mandatory — without it, output sits on the ground.
Defence
Bases get raided. Keep two or three combat Pals assigned at each, build walls where terrain does not already protect you, and place the Palbox somewhere raids cannot spawn directly on top of your plantations.
Common mistakes
- One giant base. You cannot move ore efficiently, so distant resources stay unused.
- No Transporting Pal. Everything piles up unharvested.
- Overcrowding. More Pals than the work supports just eats food and drops sanity.
- No food supply at satellite bases. Hungry Pals stop working entirely.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you move a base in Palworld?
- Yes. Dismantle the Palbox to free the base slot, then place a new Palbox elsewhere. Structures inside the old base are lost, so retrieve chest contents first.
- Do bases work while you are away?
- Yes. Assigned Pals keep mining, farming, crafting and transporting whether or not you are present, which is why specialised resource bases are so valuable.
- How many Pals can work at one base?
- Each base has a Pal capacity cap set by world settings. Once it is full, additional Pals must go in the Palbox storage or another base.
