How do you get Cloth in Palworld?

Answer

Craft Cloth from Wool at a workbench. Wool comes from Wool-producing Pals such as Lamball, either by defeating them in the wild or, far more efficiently, by assigning one to a Ranch at your base so it produces Wool continuously.

Cloth appears in the recipe for armour, beds, saddles and the Egg Incubator, which means you need a lot of it and you need it early.

The chain

Wool → Cloth. Craft Cloth from Wool at a workbench. That is the whole recipe, so the real question is where the Wool comes from.

Getting Wool

The slow way: fighting

Wool-producing Pals — Lamball being the obvious one — drop Wool when defeated in the wild. Fine for the first stack, tedious after that.

The right way: a Ranch

Build a Ranch and assign a Wool-producing Pal to it. It generates Wool continuously while it is fed and rested, with no input from you.

This is the same pattern that supplies Milk, Eggs and Honey — a Ranch with the right Pals assigned is the backbone of a self-sufficient base, and it is exactly what the Cake chain for breeding depends on.

Setting up the Ranch properly

RequirementWhy
Stocked feed boxHungry Pals stop producing
One bed per PalOvernight recovery
A Transporting PalMoves output into chests
Reasonable Pal countOvercrowding drains sanity

Ranch output stops the moment a Pal is hungry or burnt out, so a Ranch without a food supply is a Ranch that produces nothing while you are away.

Getting more Wool Pals

Wool producers are common and easy to catch, and you can also breed them — a male and female of the same species produce that species, so one pair keeps your Ranch staffed indefinitely. Confirm any pair in the breeding calculator.

Better still, breed Ranch Pals with useful passive skills. Work-boosting passives raise production directly; the process is in changing passive skills.

Where Cloth goes

  • Armour, including the cold and heat resistance sets you need for the desert and Mount Obsidian
  • Beds, one per assigned Pal
  • The Egg Incubator, and you want several
  • Saddles and [Pal Gear](/answers/how-to-get-pal-gear-in-palworld)

Set the Ranch up in your first few hours and Cloth stops being something you think about.

Frequently asked questions

What is Cloth used for in Palworld?
Armour, beds, the Egg Incubator, saddles and a range of early structures. It is one of the most consistently demanded early materials.
How do you farm Wool in Palworld?
Assign a Wool-producing Pal such as Lamball to a Ranch at your base. It generates Wool passively while it is fed and rested.
Do you need a Ranch for Cloth?
Not strictly — wild Pals drop Wool — but a Ranch turns Cloth from a chore into an automatic supply, which is worth building immediately.
