How do you get Pal Gear in Palworld?

Answer

Pal Gear is unlocked in the technology tree with Technology Points, then crafted at a workbench from materials such as leather, fibre and ingots. Each mountable or utility Pal has its own gear, and it must be equipped to that specific Pal to work.

Pal Gear is what turns a Pal from a fighter into a tool — a mount, a glider, a light source, a mobile utility.

The process

  1. Unlock the gear in the technology tree with Technology Points at the required character level.
  2. Craft it at a workbench from materials.
  3. Equip it to that specific Pal from its detail screen.

Gear is species-specific. A saddle for one Pal will not fit another, so each mount you want to use costs its own unlock and its own build.

Materials

Most gear needs some combination of:

MaterialWhere it comes from
LeatherLeather farming — the usual early bottleneck
FibreTrees and bushes, or a logging base
WoodLogging Pals at base
IngotsOre refined in a Furnace — see Coal and ore bases
Higher-tier metalsEndgame gear

If saddle crafting keeps stalling, it is almost always leather or ingots. A dedicated mining base with a Furnace fixes the ingot half permanently.

Build order

  1. A ground mount saddle. Travel speed early is worth more than almost anything else.
  2. A glider harness. Turns cliffs from obstacles into shortcuts.
  3. A [flying mount saddle](/answers/how-to-get-a-flying-mount-in-palworld). The single biggest change to how the game plays.
  4. Utility gear — light, transport and combat-support items as they become relevant.
  5. Higher-tier saddles for faster mounts later.

Gear plus breeding

Gear multiplies whatever Pal you put it on. A flying saddle on a bred flyer with Runner, Nimble or Swift passives is dramatically faster than the same saddle on a wild capture — see changing passive skills.

So the ideal order is: breed the Pal you want, condense it, then gear it. Use the breeding calculator to find which pair produces the mount you are after before you spend the materials.

Do not gear everything

Materials are finite and gear is per-Pal. Pick one ground mount, one flyer and one combat Pal and equip those properly rather than half-equipping a dozen.

Frequently asked questions

How do you equip Pal Gear in Palworld?
Craft the gear, then open the Pal's detail screen and equip it. Gear is specific to one species and does not transfer between Pals.
What materials do saddles need?
Typically leather, fibre, wood and ingots, with higher-tier saddles requiring refined materials. Leather is the usual early bottleneck.
Which Pal Gear should you build first?
A ground mount saddle first for travel speed, then a glider harness, then a flying mount saddle as soon as your character level allows.
