How do you get Bones in Palworld?
Answer
Bones drop from Dark-element and beast Pals — Cawgnito, Nox, Depresso, Rushoar, Vixy, Direhowl and Tombat are reliable sources. Farm them at night when Dark Pals spawn in numbers, or butcher surplus Pals with a Meat Cleaver. Bones are used for Pal Spheres, arrows and nails.
Bones are an early-game bottleneck that comes back later when you start mass-producing spheres and arrows. Like Leather, Bones are a drop, not a node.
Where Bones come from
Dark-element and beast Pals carry Bones on their drop tables:
| Pal | Notes |
|---|---|
| Cawgnito | Nocturnal, spawns in flocks |
| Nox | Nocturnal, grassland and hills |
| Depresso | Nocturnal, common in the first region |
| Rushoar | Daytime, also drops Leather |
| Vixy | Daytime, also a Ranch producer |
| Direhowl | Fast, drops Leather too |
| Tombat | Caves and night, larger yield |
Notice how many are nocturnal. Bone farming is a night activity — the same route that gives nothing at noon fills your bag after dark.
The night loop
- Sleep or wait until night at your base.
- Ride out to open grassland or hills near a fast travel statue.
- Catch every Cawgnito, Nox and Depresso you see — catching gives the drop plus capture XP.
- Teleport away and back to refresh spawns.
Because nocturnal Pals are usually low level, this is safe to do from very early in the game.
Butchering: the reliable source
The Meat Cleaver turns your Pal Box surplus into materials. Butchering a Bone-dropping Pal returns Bones directly, which makes every duplicate capture useful. If you are already catching in bulk for the capture-milestone XP bonus, butchering the extras costs nothing.
This is the answer for anyone who needs a large amount of Bones quickly: catch twenty Depresso, butcher fifteen.
What Bones are used for
- Pal Spheres — the recurring cost of the entire game
- Arrows, especially in the pre-firearm period
- Nails, used across the building tree
- Fertiliser for plantations, which feeds your Cake supply for breeding
That last chain matters more than it looks. A functioning Wheat plantation needs fertiliser, fertiliser needs Bones, and Cake needs Wheat — so a Bone shortage quietly becomes a breeding shortage two steps later.
Efficiency notes
- Farm at night, always.
- Bring low-tier spheres. Nocturnal Pals are weak; do not waste good spheres.
- Keep a Meat Cleaver in your hotbar so you can butcher without a trip home.
- Do not sell Bone Pals to merchants while you are short — butchering is worth more.
