How to get Anubis in Palworld
7 min readUpdated 2026-08-05
Short answer
The fastest way to get Anubis is to breed Penking with Bushi — a unique recipe that ignores the normal rank formula and always produces Anubis. Alternatively, catch the Alpha Anubis that spawns in the Desiccated Desert around level 47; bring Ice or Grass Pals and heat-resistant armour.
Anubis is the Pal almost every Palworld player eventually goes looking for. It has Handiwork level 4 — the highest in the game alongside a very small group — which means one Anubis at a workbench outpaces a whole team of early Pals. It also fights well, with strong Ground-element attacks and enough bulk to survive boss encounters.
There are two routes to one: breed it, or hunt it. Breeding is faster, cheaper and repeatable, and it is what this guide covers first.
The fastest way: breed Penking + Bushi
Anubis is one of roughly 150 Pals in Palworld that has a unique breeding recipe. Unique recipes ignore the usual rank-averaging maths entirely — if the pair matches, the child is fixed.
Penking (male or female) + Bushi (the opposite gender) = Anubis, every time.
Steps:
- Build a Breeding Farm (Technology level 19; 100 Wood, 20 Stone, 50 Fiber).
- Put a Cake in the feed box.
- Assign one Penking and one Bushi, one of each gender.
- Collect the Huge Rocky Egg and put it in an Egg Incubator.
That is the whole process. If you want to check any pair before spending Cake, drop both parents into the breeding calculator — Anubis pairs are flagged with a Unique badge.
Where to find Penking and Bushi
Penking is an Alpha field boss found on the frozen coastline in the north-west of Palpagos, and it also appears as a regular spawn near the Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings area. It is a Water/Ice Pal, so bring Electric or Grass damage.
Bushi spawns in the volcanic and forest borderlands in the eastern half of the map, mostly at night, and it is a Fire Pal — Water Pals make it straightforward. Bushi also appears as a caged Pal in some dungeon rooms.
Both are marked on our interactive map: filter to Alpha Pal and Sealed Realm to see the guaranteed spawns rather than roaming ones.
Other parent pairs that produce Anubis
The unique recipe is not the only route. Because Anubis sits at a specific breeding rank, plenty of ordinary pairs average into it. The combinations page lists every verified pair from the v1.0 data — select Anubis and you get the full set, filterable by Pals you already own.
A few practical examples of the pattern:
| If you own | Pair it with | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Penking | Bushi | Anubis (unique recipe) |
| A high-rank Ground or Dark Pal | A mid-rank partner | Anubis via rank averaging |
| An Anubis | Another Anubis | Anubis (for passive stacking) |
That last row matters more than it looks. Once you have a single Anubis of each gender, you never need Penking or Bushi again — Anubis pairs with Anubis to produce Anubis, and that is how you build a passive-perfect one.
Catching the Alpha Anubis instead
If you would rather hunt, there is a fixed Alpha Anubis field boss in the Desiccated Desert, in the eastern desert region, at roughly level 47. Preparation matters:
- Heat-resistant armour. The desert inflicts heat damage during the day; bring the Heat Resistant Pelt Armor or fight at night when cold resistance is needed instead.
- Ice or Grass Pals. Anubis is Ground element, so Grass hits it hard and Ice performs well against its typical partners.
- Legendary or Ultra Spheres. Alphas have heavily reduced catch rates. Bring 20 or more.
- Ranged weapons. Anubis closes distance quickly and its melee combos hurt; a rifle or assault rifle plus a mount to kite with makes the fight much safer.
- Alpha respawns. If the catch fails, the Alpha returns after an in-game day or a server restart, so a failed attempt costs time rather than the Pal.
The Alpha's location is pinned on the map under the Alpha Pal layer, along with the nearest fast travel statue so you can respawn back to it quickly.
Why Anubis is worth the effort
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Element | Ground |
| Partner skill | Guardian of the Desert — boosts Ground damage while carried |
| Work suitability | Handiwork 4, Mining 3, Transporting 3 |
| Role | Best-in-slot base crafter, strong mid-late combat Pal |
Handiwork 4 is the headline. Crafting queues that take a full session with early Pals finish in a fraction of the time with two or three Anubis assigned. Most players end up breeding several: one combat Anubis with attack passives, and two or three work Anubis with Serious, Artisan and Work Slave.
Passive skills to breed for
For a base Anubis, aim at:
- Artisan — +50% Work Speed
- Serious — +20% Work Speed
- Lucky — +15% Work Speed and +15% Attack
- Work Slave — +30% Work Speed, reduced Attack
For a combat Anubis, swap those for Musclehead, Ferocious, Burly Body and Lord of the Underworld or similar. Pair two Anubis that each hold part of the set and repeat until the child carries all four — see the full breeding guide for how inheritance works.
Common problems
- The pair produces something else. One of your parents is not the Pal you think — a Penking variant or a mis-selected Bushi. Verify both in the calculator.
- No egg appears. Same gender, or no Cake in the feed box.
- The Alpha keeps killing your Pals. Its combos punish melee Pals. Use a ranged Pal and keep your own distance on a mount.
- Catch rate feels impossible. Reduce it to under 20% health first, apply a status effect if you can, and throw Legendary Spheres. Anything above Ultra tier is worth it here.
The efficient plan
- Catch a Bushi at night in the east — it is much easier than Penking.
- Catch or defeat Penking on the northern ice coast.
- Breed them into your first Anubis.
- Breed that Anubis with an opposite-gender Anubis, or breed Penking + Bushi again for a second one.
- From there, run Anubis + Anubis pairs and keep only the children with better passives.
Two Alpha-tier catches buy you an unlimited supply. Check every pair in the breeding calculator first and you will never waste a Cake.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the Anubis breeding combination in Palworld?
- Penking + Bushi is the unique recipe that always produces Anubis. Because it is a hard-coded pair it ignores the normal rank-averaging formula, so the result is guaranteed.
- Where does Anubis spawn in Palworld?
- An Alpha Anubis field boss spawns in the Desiccated Desert in the eastern desert region at around level 47. Bring heat-resistant armour, Grass or Ice Pals, and Legendary Spheres.
- Can you breed two Anubis together?
- Yes. An Anubis pair always produces another Anubis, which is the standard way to concentrate passive skills like Artisan, Serious and Lucky onto one perfect crafter.
- Why is Anubis so good in Palworld?
- Anubis has Handiwork level 4, the highest work tier for crafting, plus Mining 3 and Transporting 3, and it fights well as a Ground-element Pal with the Guardian of the Desert partner skill.
