How do you find a male and female Pal for breeding in Palworld?

A stalled Breeding Farm is almost always a gender problem, and the fix is simple once you know where to look.

Where gender is shown

Each Pal displays a male or female symbol on its status screen and next to its name in the Palbox list. Sort or scan the Palbox before assigning a pair — it is faster than dropping two Pals in and wondering why nothing hatches.

The rule

A Breeding Farm needs exactly one male and one female. That is the only pairing constraint besides species eligibility. Order does not matter; the breeding calculator treats A + B and B + A identically because the game does.

Getting the gender you need

Gender is assigned when a Pal is caught or hatched and cannot be changed. Options:

1. Catch more. The most direct route. Catching duplicates is useful anyway — ten captures of a species grants a permanent Paldex bonus, and spares feed the Pal Condenser.
2. Buy one. A Pal Merchant sells rotating stock, and buying the missing half of a pair skips the hunt entirely.
3. Breed the species again. If you already have a working pair of that species, keep hatching until the gender you need appears.
4. Breed from a different pair. Our combinations page lists every parent pair that produces a given species, so you can often route around a missing Pal completely.
