Where do you find the Black Marketeer in Palworld?

Answer

The Black Marketeer appears away from ordinary settlements, at hidden camps and out-of-the-way locations rather than in town squares. They stock rarer Pals than a normal Pal Merchant at much higher Dog Coin prices.

The Black Marketeer is the "rare stock, terrible prices" merchant. Worth knowing about, worth visiting occasionally, not worth building your economy around.

Where to look

Unlike ordinary merchants, the Black Marketeer does not stand in a town square. They set up away from the main settlements — at out-of-the-way camps and quieter corners of the map that you tend to find while exploring rather than while running errands.

Merchant and settlement positions are marked on our interactive map, which makes the trip a planned fast travel hop instead of a search.

The stock

Rarer Pals than the standard Pal Merchant carries, at prices to match. Stock rotates, so what is there today will not be there next visit.

When it is actually worth the gold

There is one clear case: the stock contains a parent you need for a unique breeding recipe.

Unique recipes require two specific species. If one of them is rare, awkwardly located or simply not spawning for you, buying it instantly unblocks the whole chain. Check the pair in the breeding calculator first, and use the path finder to confirm how many steps the purchase actually saves.

Outside of that case, the maths rarely works. A species you can catch in the wild in ten minutes is not worth a large pile of Dog Coins.

Funding a visit

Black Marketeer prices are the reason to take gold seriously. The two reliable sources:

  • Selling bred surplus — every breeding project produces discards, and bred Pals sell well
  • Dungeon runs — chests plus Ancient Technology Points in one trip

Both are covered in our Dog Coin farming answer.

Do not rob them

The obvious idea is a bad one. Attacking merchants makes you wanted, and a dead merchant is a rotating rare-Pal shop you have permanently deleted from your own save.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Black Marketeer sell in Palworld?
Rarer Pals than an ordinary Pal Merchant, at significantly higher Dog Coin prices. Stock rotates, so checking back periodically is worthwhile.
Is the Black Marketeer worth it?
Only when the stock includes a Pal you need for a specific unique breeding recipe. Otherwise catching or breeding the species is far cheaper.
Does attacking the Black Marketeer make you wanted?
Attacking any merchant NPC triggers pursuit, and it permanently removes a useful service from your world, so it is not recommended.
