How to level up fast in Palworld
8 min readUpdated 2026-08-05
Short answer
The fastest way to level up in Palworld is catching Pals rather than killing them: every catch grants XP, and catching ten of the same species gives a large bonus. Combine that with dungeon loops, Alpha field bosses and hatching eggs, and keep an XP-boosting Pal such as Lovander in your party.
Levelling in Palworld is not a grind if you know where the XP actually comes from. Most of it is in catching, not fighting, and a large chunk of the rest is in content you were going to do anyway — dungeons, bosses and eggs. What follows is a practical plan rather than an exploit list, so it still works after patches.
Catching beats killing, always
Every Pal you catch gives more XP than the same Pal killed, and Palworld layers bonuses on top:
- First capture of a species grants a one-off bonus.
- Every tenth capture of the same species grants a large milestone bonus, and this keeps paying out at 10, 20, 30 and beyond.
- Higher-level Pals give more XP, and Alpha versions give substantially more.
The practical consequence: when you find a dense spawn area for one species, do not clear it — catch it, repeatedly, until the milestone fires. Twenty Lamball caught in a field is worth more than an hour of combat elsewhere at low level.
Raise your catch rate first
Catch XP scales with how many Pals you can actually land, so Lifmunk Effigies are the highest-value early collectible in the game. Each one you redeem at a Statue of Power permanently improves your capture power. Turn on the effigy layer on the interactive map, plan one long flying loop, and collect fifty in a session — everything afterwards gets faster.
The dungeon loop
Dungeons are the most consistent XP per minute in the mid game:
- Pick a region matching your level and open the Dungeon layer on the map.
- Clear the dungeon boss at the end — it is worth a large XP chunk plus Ancient Civilization Parts.
- Catch, do not kill, every Pal inside.
- Leave, fast travel away and back, and the dungeon regenerates with a fresh interior.
Three dungeons in a chain, run repeatedly, will carry you through the twenties and thirties comfortably. It also stockpiles the parts you need for Egg Incubators, spheres and the grappling gun.
Alpha Pals and tower bosses
Alpha field bosses are large XP payouts and they respawn after an in-game day or a server restart. Catching an Alpha rather than killing it roughly doubles the reward, and Alphas drop the crafting parts that gate your tech.
Syndicate Tower bosses give the single biggest XP awards in the game and can be re-fought. A tower rematch at an appropriate level is worth more than an hour of ordinary play. Bring the element counter, an assault rifle if you have one, and remember the fight has a time limit — bosses reset rather than heal if you stall.
Both are pinned on our map with their levels visible, so you can pick targets that are above your level but still winnable.
Hatch eggs for passive XP
Every egg you hatch grants XP, and if you already run a Breeding Farm you are producing eggs anyway. A hatchery with eight incubators quietly generates a steady XP stream between other activities — see the egg and incubation guide for the layout, and the breeding guide for keeping the Cake supply running.
Wild eggs count too. Sweeping a region for large eggs on a flying mount gives XP on pickup-to-hatch and often produces Pals above your current level.
Base work levels you while you are away
Your base team generates XP for the Pals working in it, and completed crafting contributes to your own progression through the items and technology it unlocks. Two habits pay off:
- Queue long crafts before you log off — ingots, cloth, arrows, spheres.
- Keep the Palbox full of workers with high work suitability. An Anubis at Handiwork 4 finishes queues several times faster than starter Pals; the Anubis guide covers breeding one cheaply.
XP boosters worth using
| Source | Effect |
|---|---|
| Lovander partner skill | Boosts XP gained while it is in your party |
| Food buffs | Cooked meals give temporary bonuses and keep your Pals working |
| Lifmunk Effigies | Better catch rate means more catch XP per sphere |
| Higher sphere tiers | Landing catches on high-level Pals you would otherwise fail |
Keep Lovander in a party slot during any dedicated levelling session. It is not a combat Pal, but the XP multiplier is real and it stacks with everything else here.
A level 1 to 60 plan
Levels 1 to 15
Catch everything. Do not fight anything you can capture. Build a small base near a berry plantation, unlock the Egg Incubator at tech 7, and start collecting effigies. Grab a Nitewing as soon as you can survive one — a flying mount doubles your effective play speed.
Levels 15 to 30
Run the dungeon loop. Do your first two Syndicate Towers when your gear allows. Unlock the Breeding Farm at tech 19 and get Cake production running — this is the moment the game opens up. Sweep effigies whenever you are flying between objectives.
Levels 30 to 45
Alpha hunting becomes the main source. Chain Alphas across a region on a mount, catching rather than killing. Breed a work team so your base keeps producing while you are out; the combinations page shows which pairs you can already make from Pals you own.
Levels 45 to 60
Tower rematches, high-level dungeon chains and legendary field bosses. At this point breeding takes over as your main progression system — passive-perfect Pals matter far more than raw level. The legendary breeding guide covers what can and cannot be bred here.
Technology points are separate
Level-ups grant Technology Points, spent in the tech tree. Ancient Technology Points are different: they come only from Alpha Pals, tower bosses and dungeon bosses, and they unlock the strongest blueprints — the grappling gun, advanced spheres, better armour and the Pal Condenser upgrades. If your build feels stuck, it is usually Ancient Technology Points you are short of, not levels. Kill or catch bosses specifically for them.
Mistakes that slow you down
- Killing Pals you could catch. The XP difference is large and it compounds through milestone bonuses.
- Ignoring effigies. Low catch rates make every later method slower.
- Walking. Get a flying mount and sweep fast travel statues early.
- Fighting bosses under-geared. Weapon tier matters more than character level. Craft the next rifle before attempting the next tower.
- Leaving the base idle. An empty crafting queue is wasted offline time.
Level comes quickly once catching is your default response to every Pal you meet. Plan routes on the map, keep a hatchery running, and let the base work while you are out.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the fastest way to level up in Palworld?
- Catch Pals instead of killing them. Every capture grants XP and each tenth capture of the same species pays a large milestone bonus. Add dungeon loops, Alpha bosses, tower rematches and egg hatching, and keep Lovander in your party for its XP boost.
- Do you get XP for hatching eggs in Palworld?
- Yes. Every egg hatched grants XP, so a hatchery running eight or more incubators produces a steady passive XP stream alongside your breeding projects.
- How do you get Ancient Technology Points?
- Only from Alpha Pals, dungeon bosses and Syndicate Tower bosses. Ordinary level-ups give normal Technology Points; Ancient Technology Points gate the grappling gun, advanced spheres and high-tier armour.
- Do Lifmunk Effigies help you level faster?
- Indirectly but significantly. Effigies redeemed at a Statue of Power raise your capture power, which means more successful catches, and catching is the largest XP source in the game.
- Can you re-fight tower bosses for XP?
- Yes. Syndicate Tower bosses can be challenged again and give the largest single XP awards in the game, making rematches one of the strongest late-game levelling methods.
