How to open map in Palworld?
Players search this as “palword how to open map”. Here is the verified Palworld 1.0 answer, plus the tools that let you act on it right away.
Short answer
Fast travel in Palworld works from activated Statues of Power and Great Eagle statues: open the map with M, click any statue you have unlocked, and confirm. Ore and other heavy resources cannot be carried through fast travel, so use a Transporting Pal or a base chest instead.
Palworld's map is huge, and the difference between a player who clears content quickly and one who spends their evening running across grassland is almost entirely fast travel discipline. This guide covers how the system works, its one big restriction, and how to plan routes properly using an interactive map.
How to fast travel
- Press M to open the map (on controller, the corresponding menu button).
- Locate a fast travel point you have already activated — they show as bright icons.
- Click or select it and confirm.
There is no cost, no cooldown and no item requirement. The only rule is that you must have physically visited and activated the destination first.
The three kinds of travel point
- Statues of Power — the tall blue statues found across the world. Touching one activates it permanently and also lets you spend Lifmunk Effigies to raise your Pal Sphere catch rate.
- Great Eagle Statues — the winged statues you build at your own bases. Every base you place with a Palbox becomes a travel destination automatically.
- Tower and dungeon entrances — some are added to your map once discovered, giving you a shortcut back to boss arenas.
Because your own bases count, the cheapest way to make a distant region convenient is to plant a small base there. You do not need to develop it — a Palbox and a chest is enough to turn a two-minute flight into a one-second teleport.
The ore restriction everyone hits
You cannot fast travel while carrying Ore, Coal, Sulfur, Quartz or other heavy raw materials. The game blocks the teleport with a message about being unable to carry your items.
Ways around it:
- Build a base at the mining site. Store the ore there, then teleport home and let a Transporting Pal move nothing — you simply mine into a chest at that base and craft there instead.
- Use a flying mount. Nitewing, Vanwyrm and later Jetragon carry you and your load without restriction.
- Drop the ore, travel, and come back. Rarely worth it, but it works for a partial load.
- Split loads. Only the restricted items block travel; you can teleport with everything else if you drop the ore into a chest first.
The base-at-the-mine approach is what most players settle on. A second base next to a large ore cluster, with a few Digtoise and a chest, removes the problem entirely.
Unlocking travel points efficiently
Early on, the fastest progress comes from a deliberate statue sweep rather than organic exploration:
- Get a flying mount as early as you can — Nitewing is catchable in the mid-teens and changes the game.
- Fly the coastline first. Statues cluster near shorelines and along the main road network.
- Touch every statue you pass even if the region is above your level. Activation has no level requirement and no combat.
- Pick up Lifmunk Effigies as you go — there are hundreds scattered on cliffs and ruins, and they permanently improve catch rates when redeemed at a Statue of Power.
Our interactive map exists for exactly this. Turn on the Fast Travel and Lifmunk Effigy layers, plan a loop, and mark each one as found as you collect it — progress is saved in your browser, so the map doubles as a completion tracker across sessions.
Reading the map like a planner
The in-game map shows what you have discovered. An external map shows what exists, which makes it a planning tool rather than a record. Practical uses:
- Alpha Pal hunting. Filter to the Alpha layer to see every field boss and its level, so you can pick fights that match your gear. Alphas also drop the Ancient Civilization Parts you need for incubators, spheres and the grappling gun.
- Dungeon runs. Dungeon entrances refresh their interiors, and each region's dungeons contain element-matched Pals and chests. A route that chains three nearby dungeons is far better XP than roaming.
- Resource sites. Ore, coal, sulfur and quartz clusters determine where your second and third bases go. Pick base locations from the map, not from wherever you happened to be standing.
- Effigy sweeps. Effigies are the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade in the early game and they are pure collection — no combat required.
Coordinates in Palworld are shown as a pair in the corner of the pause menu. Our map displays the same coordinate pair as you move the cursor, so you can match any location you read about online to a real spot in your world.
Teleporting a full party and your Pals
Fast travel moves your active party with you — any Pal in your six-slot loadout comes along, including one out on the field. Pals working at a base stay where they are; assigning and unassigning is done through the Palbox, not through travel.
If you are playing multiplayer, each player travels independently. Guild bases are shared travel destinations, so building one central guild base gives everyone the same hub.
Troubleshooting fast travel
- Statue is greyed out. You have not activated it yet. Travel points must be touched in person once.
- Cannot travel with items. You are carrying ore, coal, sulfur or another restricted material.
- Base missing from the map. The Palbox was destroyed or the base was dismantled; a base only becomes a destination while its Palbox exists.
- Travelling puts you in the air. Normal for cliffside statues — summon a flying mount immediately or take the fall damage.
- Server lag on arrival. Dedicated servers stream the destination chunk on arrival; wait a moment before mounting.
A fast-travel-first play pattern
The players who progress fastest do roughly this:
- Sweep statues on a flying mount before doing content in a region.
- Place a small base near each major resource cluster.
- Keep one central base with the Breeding Farm, incubators and crafting benches — see the breeding guide for that layout.
- Teleport out, gather or fight, teleport home, craft, repeat.
Everything else in Palworld is faster once travel stops being a walk. Open the map, turn on the layers you care about, and plan the next loop before you log in.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you fast travel in Palworld?
- Open the map with M, select any Statue of Power, Great Eagle statue or base you have already activated, and confirm. There is no cost or cooldown, but you must have visited the destination in person first.
- Why can't I fast travel with ore in Palworld?
- Heavy raw materials such as Ore, Coal, Sulfur and Quartz block fast travel by design. Store them in a chest, build a small base at the mining site, or fly home on a mount instead.
- How do you open the map in Palworld?
- Press M on keyboard, or the equivalent menu button on controller. The pause screen also shows your current coordinate pair in the corner.
- Do your Pals travel with you?
- Yes, every Pal in your active six-slot party travels with you, including one currently summoned. Pals assigned to base work stay at their base.
- Do bases count as fast travel points?
- Yes. Any base with a Palbox becomes a travel destination, which makes planting a minimal base near a distant region the cheapest way to make it convenient.
