How do you level up Pals fast in Palworld?

Pals earn XP from fights and captures while they are in your active party, so rotate the Pals you want levelled into the party and run Alpha bosses, dungeons and capture loops. Captured Alphas arrive at a high level, often skipping the grind entirely.

Pal levelling in Palworld is simpler than most players assume: XP comes from being in your party when things die or get caught. Base work does not level a Pal.

The fastest sources

Captures

Capturing awards substantial XP, and unlike killing it also gives you a Pal, Paldex progress and condenser fuel. A capture loop in a dense spawn area is the most efficient levelling activity in the early and mid game — the mechanics are in how to catch Alpha Pals.

Alpha bosses

Alpha Pals have huge health pools and give correspondingly large XP. They respawn, and their locations are fixed and mapped, so an Alpha circuit on a flying mount is a repeatable route.

Dungeons

Dungeon runs combine a dense run of enemies, a boss, chests and Ancient Technology Points. Best XP-per-minute once you can clear one comfortably.

Rotate your party

Only party Pals earn XP. If you want a specific Pal levelled, it has to be out with you. A practical habit is to keep one strong carry Pal plus one or two Pals you are levelling, and swap the latter as they catch up.

Sometimes do not level at all

Two shortcuts often beat grinding:

Capture an Alpha. It arrives at its own high level, frequently above what you could reach by grinding at that point in the run.
Breed a better Pal. A bred Pal with strong passive skills outperforms a higher-level Pal without them. Check what your roster can produce in the breeding calculator, and use the path finder for a route to a target species.

Keep them in condition

A levelling run is wasted if the Pal ends it depressed or injured. Carry food, swap damaged Pals back to the Palbox, and keep the base able to restore them — see healing Pals and Pal sanity.
